Whole School Art Show

Week 5 was a very exciting week as we had our Whole School Art Show. The corridors looked their best, decorated with beautiful art work. The theme was FOOD. There were lollipops, pizzas, apples, gumballs, cakes, ice cream sundaes, hamburgers, donuts and more! A quick lap of the school looking at art left you feeling hungry!

Many children bought their art work for $10. What a wonderful collection to keep over the years. Art work can still be paid for through the office.

At the Art Show assembly everyone sat down while some people got awards. I made a cake and a lollipop.

Urban Upcycle

The 1/2 classes were treated to some wonderful building, creativity and construction on Monday, August 7, with Angela from Urban Upcycle.

Angela revisited the concepts: reduce, reuse, recycle, refuse and rethink. She also introduced us to a new 're' word - repurpose. Urban Upcycle collects lots of products from local businesses that would otherwise be thrown to landfill and she allows children to repurpose them by building amazing creations. "Giving kids the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials and discovering an alternative use for an object is what ‘Urban Upcycle’ is all about.  Being creative, exploring a variety of materials, discovering a new use for something and enjoying the process of making is not only fun but helps kids to express themselves and communicate with those around them," says Angela.

So, next time you're about to put something in the bin, stop and think, "Can I use this for something else?"

Jeans for Genes - Friday August 4th

Thanks for your support of the JSC's second fundraiser for the year. Jeans for Genes raises money to support the work of Children's Medical Research Institute. They research genetic mysteries and childhood diseases in order to give kids around the world a better chance of a healthy, happy future!

Student Led Conferences

We were very proud of our wonderful 1/2 children who did a marvellous job of sharing their Portfolios with their families. We're sure that mums and dads were equally proud. This type of opportunity not only allows children to share work of which they are proud, but it also allows them to practice quite a different form of oral presentation to our regular show and tell sessions and classroom discussions. Well done, kids! We hope that you continue to enjoy sharing Portfolios at home before returning them to school so we can add Semester 2's work.
Practice makes...
...perfect!

Life Ed

All grades have attended a wonderful session at the Life Ed Van. A range of well-being concepts were introduced; including nutrition, safety at home and in the community, friendship and sun safety. These concepts are being followed up in the classroom. But everyone's favourite part was meeting Harold!
